Many business people baulk at the task of writing a business plan or feasibility study. They are bamboozled by the vast array of information, all of which presents slightly different content and slightly different methods for preparing and writing the plan.
The most important thing to remember is that the business owner or manager is the best equipped person to prepare the bare bones of the plan. They may not feel comfortable enough with their writing style to polish the report ready for presentation to banks or investors, but the essential content of the plan should be fairly easily committed to paper.
Summarised, the process of writing a business plan involves:
- Looking at the current status of the business,
- Considering where the business wants to go, and
- Determining a plan to reach the business goals.
The different types of plans will have varying emphases, but essentially they all do the above.
